Liverpool have made their move for Yankuba Minteh.
Brighton have made their response very clear:
No.
Liverpool reportedly submitted a £50 million bid for the 22-year-old winger, but Brighton rejected it. The Reds are looking to strengthen their wide attacking options, particularly after Mohamed Salah’s departure.
But here’s where things get interesting.
👀 Liverpool Might Not Be Finished
The £50 million offer was only an opening bid, and Liverpool are now considering whether to come back with more.
Minteh is reportedly interested in the move if the two clubs can agree on a fee, so Liverpool at least have the player’s side seemingly open to the transfer.
The problem?
Brighton don’t really need to sell.
Minteh is under contract until 2029, which gives Brighton plenty of leverage in negotiations.
There’s Just One BIG Problem
Minteh isn’t even fit right now.
The winger recently underwent surgery on a right-leg injury suffered during Brighton’s preseason win over Roma. He’s expected to be out for around another eight weeks.
And Liverpool are reportedly willing to spend £50 million on him while he’s injured.
That tells you something about how highly the club rates him.
Why Liverpool Want Him
Minteh is a left-footed winger who primarily operates on the right — exactly the sort of profile Liverpool need as they rebuild their attack.
He’s already got Premier League experience and, at only 22, Liverpool could see him as a long-term option rather than a short-term fix.
But his numbers aren’t exactly superstar numbers yet.
He’s scored nine Premier League goals and provided eight assists across his time at Brighton.
So Liverpool would be betting heavily on his potential.
Brighton Are Under Pressure Too
There’s another reason this story could get interesting.
Brighton have already lost Danny Welbeck to Chelsea, while Kaoru Mitoma is currently injured.
So letting Minteh go as well would leave Brighton needing to replace another important attacking option.
That’s probably why that £50 million bid was rejected so quickly.
Brighton know Liverpool have money.
They also know Liverpool desperately want another winger.
That puts the ball right back in Liverpool’s court.
And Then There’s Bradley Barcola
Minteh isn’t Liverpool’s only option.
The Reds are still interested in Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola, but PSG reportedly value him at around £140–145 million.
That’s a completely different level of spending.
Suddenly, Minteh starts looking a lot more attractive.
£50 million?
