Portugal’s disappointing 1-1 draw with DR Congo has sparked a social media storm and Bruno Fernandes has found himself at the center of it.
Following the match, thousands of Cristiano Ronaldo supporters reportedly flooded Fernandes’ Instagram posts with comments accusing him of not passing the ball to Portugal’s captain enough during the game. Similar criticism was also directed at teammates João Neves and Vitinha, with fans demanding they do more to supply Ronaldo in front of goal.
The controversy intensified when Ronaldo’s sister, Katia Aveiro, liked a social media post criticizing Fernandes’ performance and leadership, adding even more fuel to the growing debate surrounding Portugal’s World Cup campaign.
While some supporters insist Fernandes should have looked for Ronaldo more often, others argue Portugal’s problems run much deeper than one player, pointing instead to the team’s tactics and overall performance. With pressure mounting ahead of the clash against Uzbekistan, Portugal will be desperate to silence the critics on the pitch.
