Amy Hunt had just made European athletics history.
Four gold medals.
Four.
The British sprinter became the first athlete ever to win four golds at a single European Championships, picking up titles in the 100m, 200m, women’s 4x100m relay and mixed 4x100m relay.
So what did she do after pulling off something nobody had done before?
She got KFC.
Yes, seriously.
Four Golds Deserved a Proper Celebration
Hunt had spent the week running, racing and answering questions while carrying the pressure of trying to make history on home soil in Birmingham.
By the time she secured that fourth gold, she had every reason to let loose.
And she did.
There was champagne.
There was KFC.
And apparently, there was a 2 a.m. massage thrown into the mix.
It wasn’t exactly the traditional celebration you’d expect from an athlete after making history, but Hunt didn’t seem too interested in following a script.
The Crazy Part? She Barely Slept
Here’s where the story gets even better.
Hunt’s celebration didn’t exactly give her much time to recover.
She reportedly got only around three hours of sleep before having to deal with media commitments.
And somehow, she was still standing.
Considering she’d just finished one of the busiest weeks of her career, that might be more impressive than the KFC itself.
She Had Planned This
What makes Hunt’s achievement even more impressive is that the four golds weren’t some wild accident.
She openly talked about wanting to go after the quadruple before the championships were over.
After winning the 100m and 200m titles, she still had two relays to get through.
She delivered in both.
In the mixed 4x100m relay, Hunt and her British teammates also set a European record, finishing in 39.97 seconds according to Reuters.
So when she finally crossed the line for that fourth gold, there was no question.
She had done exactly what she set out to do.
Hunt Is Becoming More Than Just a Sprinter
There’s something else happening here.
Hunt is starting to become one of the more recognizable personalities in British athletics.
More than 4 million people watched her European Championship success on the BBC, while her social-media following reportedly doubled during the week.
And she doesn’t seem particularly interested in hiding her personality.
She’s confident.
She’s ambitious.
And she’s comfortable talking about wanting to be one of the biggest names in the sport.
That could be exactly what athletics needs.
Four Gold Medals and Still Hungry
The European Championships might be over, but Hunt isn’t slowing down.
She’s already looking ahead to bigger challenges, including competing against some of the world’s best sprinters and building toward the 2027 World Championships and 2028 Olympics.
That’s what makes this story so interesting.
Most athletes would probably want a long break after winning four major titles.
Hunt?
Apparently, she’s already thinking about what’s next.
Maybe that’s the secret.
Win four gold medals. Eat some KFC. Drink some champagne. Get a 2 a.m. massage. Then get back to work.
Not a bad week.
