Real Madrid’s attempt to land one of football’s hottest stars has been shut down in dramatic fashion.
The Spanish giants officially submitted a €150 million offer for Atlético Madrid striker Julián Álvarez, but the proposal was immediately rejected. Atlético made it clear that the Argentine forward is not for sale and pointed to his massive €500 million release clause.
The bid came just days after Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez promised supporters a blockbuster signing following his re-election victory. Instead of celebrating a new Galáctico arrival, Madrid now faces a public rejection from its city rival.
Álvarez enjoyed an outstanding season and has attracted interest from several top European clubs, but Atlético appears determined to keep hold of one of its most valuable assets.
With tensions rising between the two Madrid clubs, this transfer saga may be far from over.
