South Korea kicked off their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign in style, coming from behind to defeat Czechia 2-1 in an entertaining Group A clash on Thursday night.

After a quiet first half, Czechia broke the deadlock in the 59th minute when Ladislav Krejčí powered home from a long throw-in, putting the Europeans in control. However, South Korea responded with resilience and quality.

Midfielder Hwang In-beom leveled the match in the 67th minute with a composed finish after a brilliant attacking move, shifting the momentum firmly in Korea’s favor. The comeback was completed in the 80th minute when substitute Oh Hyeon-gyu tapped in a low cross from Hwang Hee-chan to spark wild celebrations among the Korean supporters.

Captain Son Heung-min once again led by example, constantly creating opportunities and stretching the Czech defense, while Lee Kang-in impressed with his creativity throughout the contest. Czechia nearly found a late equalizer, but a goal was ruled out for offside before goalkeeper Kim Seung-gyu produced a crucial save in stoppage time to preserve the victory.

The win gives South Korea a massive three points in Group A and provides an early boost in their quest to reach the knockout stage. Czechia, meanwhile, will need to bounce back quickly after letting their lead slip in a match that could prove costly as the group unfolds.
